How To Fix The Xbox 360 Red Ring Of Death

XBox 360 Flashing Red… Xbox e74 Error… XBox Red Ring of Death… 360 RROD — regardless of what you call it, it’s not good! That trio of little blinking ruby red lights have created a lot of headaches to gamers the world over. A lot of Xbox gurus suggest that the red ring of death will strike 1 in 3 boxes, that would be roughly 33% fail rate. Other experts estimate 1 in 4 consoles or a 25% failure rate. These numbers are way too high in our view, but it is what it is… The Xbox 360 still offers great gaming.

Is There A Way To Avoid Those 3 Flashing Ruby Red  Lights?

There are some steps you can take to help your console to run cooler and possibly avoid those flashing red lights. Understand that in the majority of cases the red ring of death is caused due to excessive heat. Keep your machine as cool as possible all the time. We suggest, you should always place your Xbox out of direct sunlight and other heat sources with lots of space for air-flow. Also, think about purchasing an after-market cooling fan. They cost about 25 bucks and are very efficient at keeping your box cool. You will improve the performance of your Xbox360 this way.

When it’s all said and done, however, the The Red Ring Of Death is probably unavoidable.

So, What Are Some Ways To Fix The Red Ring Of Death?

The “easy” way to fix it, is to ship it to Microsoft — along with your check for $160. If Your Xbox is still under warranty, Microsoft will fix it no charge, but it will probably take from 4-6 weeks before you get your machine back. Besides having to wait an eternity in gamer time, you might not even get your original console back. There’s a high probability they’ll ship back a refurbished machine. Usually most people don’t like this fix it method because of the time and cash required.

Alternative Xbox360 Console Repair Methods…

The best and easiest method to repair your broken box is to just fix it yourself. Repairing your machine on your own has a number advantages. Time: usually a non-techie novice can fix an Xbox 360 within 2 hours with a good repair guide to fix Xbox problems. That definitely beats waiting around 4-6 weeks. Repairing your Xbox yourself is much easier than you might guess. You don’t have to be a computer geek to repair your Xbox 360, the average Joe can easily get the job done. You need to be careful, though.  Don’t just follow any repair guide on the internet. Be cautious of “free” repair guides, quick fixes and shortcuts. Cost: A reliable repair guide can be had for under $30. That’s a lot less than spending $160 for a one-time factory fix or $200-$499 to get another  machine.

Xbox Fix-It Guides You Should Avoid

The internet is saturated with bogus guides, and suggestions on how to fix your machine. You have probably heard of the “Towel Trick”… This is a dangerous repair method that you should NEVER try. It’s not a permanent fix and you run the risk of starting a fire! In addition to permanent damage to your box, a house fire is a very real possibility!

Not a fan of hot? What about cold? There are even repair guides that advise you to put your Xbox in the freezer — while it’s running! Bad idea.

Hey, if you’d like to be a jerk and cause someone misery but, you don’t know how to code and circulate a trojan, why not just circulate a free “guide” on how to “fix” a malfunctioning Xbox? You can get the same sick “satisfaction”… Trust me, there are idiots online who do this kind of stuff for fun.

It’s unfortunate that people fall for these crazy ideas. Dropping $200-$499 to buy a replacement  Xbox is crazy when, for under $30, a legitimate repair guide can be purchased to show How To: Troubleshooting Xbox.
